Faculty Marketing & Recruitment update – December

Find out more about the recruitment activity that has been taking place since October, and updates about marketing activity and webpage maintenance.

Taster sessions

The Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health have recently undertaken a series of course taster sessions, aimed primarily at Year 13’s. The taster sessions began in late October, with a cross-faculty event, named “The Alternatives to Medicine” where our Health Science courses were discussed. Following this, we held a Speech and Language Therapy session in early November, a Health and Human Sciences session in mid-November, a Nursing session in late-November and an Orthoptics session in early December. Overall, we saw 174 students, had an average attendance rate of over 65% and each session received positive student feedback, with students expressing that they’re a great way to gain a deeper insight into their chosen subject and they helped them to “make up their mind about studying the course at Sheffield”.

Intercalation Fair

The faculty held the annual Virtual Intercalation Fair on Thursday 18th November 2021 and received 119 bookings. We saw 97 unique visitors attend, resulting in an 81.5% attendance rate.

Across the 45 Research project sessions, 93 students attended, while 39 students attended the 10 Surgery project sessions. Masters courses saw 50 students visit the 11 sessions, resulting in 474 session visits in total. Feedback stated students found the fair “engaging” and that it had “influenced their decision making on where to intercalate”.

PGT Open Day

On 24th November, the University wide PGT Open Day took place, with involvement from all postgraduate MDH Departments. Across the 10 live sessions, departments engaged with 43 prospective students. Initially feedback from students was positive, with quality conversions taking place.

The Insight Team is currently collating student and staff feedback and we will share the results once they are available.

Widening Participation – School Sessions

We have delivered school sessions to over 250 students from 7 schools this semester. For these sessions we were joined by 11 ambassadors who shared their experience of the courses.

Marketing updates

We recently launched a video to promote our MSc Reproductive and Developmental Medicine.

We are currently developing a video to help Adult Nursing candidates prepare for interviews, featuring advice from current nursing students.

The prospectus for UG 2023 is currently in development, and we have been in touch with admissions leads to ensure our course information is up to date. Work will soon progress on PGT updates, as well the online prospectus.

As you may know, Catherine Duncum left her post last month. Many of you will have gone to her for web updates. We ask that from now on, web requests are sent via this google form.
