Early Career Researcher Prize 2021

The Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health appreciates the outstanding contributions that contract research staff make to the Faculty. In recognition of this, and after Professor Wendy Baird’s announcement during the Medical School Research Day on the 14th June, we are pleased to confirm the results of the annual Early Career Researcher Prize Scheme for 2021. The remit of this prize is to reward outstanding contributions as an early career researcher in any of the four categories: Research, Teaching, Leadership and Wider Participation.

The applications in this year’s round were to a very high standard. However, we are delighted to confirm the following winners;

Dr Cleide Dos Santos Souza (Neuroscience) nominated for outstanding contribution to research, teaching, leadership and wider engagement. Cleide was nominated by Dr Laura Ferraiuolo with a letter of support from Dr Lydia Castelli. 

Quote from Cleide: “The prestige of winning the prize really means a lot to me. I am earnestly grateful for the recognition I have received for my work. This prize will improve my CV and contribute to my career development.”

Dr George Bullock (Dentistry) nominated for outstanding contribution to research and wider engagement. George was nominated by Professor Cheryl Miller with a letter of support from Dr Vanessa Hearnden.

Quote from George: I am very grateful for the recognition of my work as an ECR, it means a lot to be recognised after a year with many challenges.”

Ms Eleanor Holding (ScHARR) nominated for outstanding contribution to research. Eleanor was nominated by Dr Alexis Foster with a letter of support from Dr Annette Haywood. 

Quote from Eleanor: “I am really pleased to win this prize and want to say thank you to my colleagues for nominating me. It has given me a real confidence boost and will strengthen my CV for the future.”

Mr Tom Leah (Neuroscience) nominated for outstanding contribution to research. Tom was nominated by Dr Heather Mortiboys with a letter of support from Professor Christopher McDermott.
