I wish you all a welcome and so well deserved break over Christmas, recognising though that many will continue working in a variety of capacities over this time, including contributing to the ongoing work of the NHS.
It has been a truly extraordinary year, with unprecedented and often very difficult challenges for us all both personally and professionally. Despite this, through working so closely together we have managed to maintain and promote the core activities of our University, both in terms of our educational provision and portfolio and our priority research, and contributing at many levels to the efforts against COVID-19, whether it be through clinical care, recruiting to pivotal therapeutic and vaccine trials or to fundamental research to better understand the COVID-19 virus.
The ways that so many have taken on and overcome the challenges of 2020 in their own areas of expertise, and so often too by stepping up to help colleagues, students and the public, has been truly remarkable.
With the welcome news that the COVID vaccination programme is underway, including at STH, I am sure we are all looking forward to 2021 with a real sense of optimism, though considerable challenges remain, not least to maintain our education and research for this academic year whilst also looking to the future.
Thank you all for your contributions throughout the year. It only remains for me to thank you all once again, and wish you all a peaceful, restful and happy break with your closest family and friends. I look forward to seeing you all in 2021!
