A word from our Interim FVP – January 2020

Welcome to this second Faculty newsletter in the new format and a very Happy New Year to everyone.

At this time of year, our focus at Faculty level is on planning for the next academic year. Each department develops an annual plan, including their key priorities and targets for student numbers and research income alongside their spending plans for the year and strategic aspirations. We then pull those plans together at Faculty level and present it to the University Executive Board for approval.

From the end of February, I’ll be visiting each school with some of our Faculty Directors to outline our faculty plan and the priorities for the year ahead.  It will also be great for us to meet you and hear your comments and address any questions or concerns you have.  The dates are below, and we look forward to seeing you there.

  • Monday 24 February, 12.00pm -2.00pm
  • Monday 3 March, 2.00pm – 4.00pm
  • Tuesday 4 March, 11.00am – 1.00pm
  • Tuesday 25 March, 3.00pm – 5.00pm

Since our December newsletter, we have appointed two new members of the Faculty Executive Board. Dr Vanessa Halliday joins us as the new Faculty Director for Learning and Teaching, and Professor Janine Kirkby joins us as Faculty Director for Postgraduate Teaching. I’m sure that both will make an outstanding contribution to the Faculty. This newsletter includes an introduction to Janine, and next month we will have a spotlight on Vanessa.

The year ahead will involve a number of key developments for our Faculty, including the opening of the new PET-MRI Facility at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital. We’ll keep you updated on all of that in future newsletters, alongside news items from individual departments and schools. In the meanwhile, as mentioned in the first edition, please do make suggestions for improvements to the newsletter to Catherine, Michelle or myself.

With very best wishes

Chris
