REMINDER: Department of Infection, Immunity & Cardiovascular Disease Seminar – Wednesday 22nd June 2016

Title:  “PET Imaging in Dementia”
Speaker: Jan Wolber, Head of Imaging Technology and Biostatistics in Imaging R&D at GE Healthcare Life Sciences.
Time:  10:30am – 11:30am
Venue:  Lecture Theatre 2, B Floor Medical School.

Abstract:  This talk will focus on GE’s strategy for PET imaging in neurology. Specifically, the development of GE’s PET amyloid agent VizamylTM will be presented. The design of PET clinical trials and appropriate endpoints will be discussed. The talk will also touch on regulatory approvals and the establishment of clinical utility of PET imaging in the diagnostic workflow of patients with cognitive impairment.

Another important aspect that will be discussed is the complementarity of PET and MRI in dementia, which is evident from the combined analysis of (separately acquired) PET and MRI scans of a cohort of amnestic MCI patients, i.e. subjects with mild cognitive impairment. These results are particularly relevant for the development of integrated PET/MRI protocols in the diagnosis and follow-up of patients with neurodegenerative diseases.
